Rolling Farmland on NY 68

NY Route 68 is a good east-west road that starts at the Raquette River in Colton in Saint Lawrence County. It goes uphill and west from there and goes through classic Saint Lawrence County rolling farmland through the towns andhamlets of Pierrepont, Colton and Canton. This is the road to Canton, home of two more colleges: SUNY Canton and Saint Lawrence University. SUNY sits on a hill in it's 60's style campus aloof from the village, while the older part of St. Lawrence University melds with the eastern village. It is also the county seat for Saint Lawrence County. Canton Village is a pretty nice little place, the park, or square, in the center is really pretty and well kept up. There is an art, intellectual element there, but it's all down to earth. It reminds one a bit of Saranac Lake.

Watertower for SUNY Canton off of NY 68
Upper and Lower Lakes Wildlife Management Area The road is great, with one hard caution 20 mph bend around a farmstead. US 11, in the center of Canton Village, will take you to Potsdam from the south west. West of the village, off of NY 68 past SUNY, on Irish Settlement Road south there is the Upper and Lower Lakes Wildlife Management Area which goes all the way to the Village of Rensselaer Falls. It's open for waterfowling and fishing.
