The Village of Mayfield is just north of the junction of NY Route 30 & 30A. It is also the first village/town inside the Adirondack Parks Boundary and on the great bend of the Great Sacandaga Lake. Here you can access the lake north of the village off of NY 30. Though you can't see much from the New Route 30, the old village has has a certain lakeside charm. To see the old part of the village, take a right (east) off of Route 30 on Main or School Streets and follow Main Street north to its junction with NY 30. Besides the usual shops, it has a giant leatherclad man standing next to the State Police Barracks.
Due to the nature of many streams in Mayfield, there were a large number of tanneries, sawmills and grist mills operating in the area. The tanning of hides was a big industry and later the glove business flourished due to the abundance of hides tanned locally, and Mayfield grew into a flourishing community with many glove shops large and small springing up in town, as well as gloves being produced in the homes.....
Mayfield also has good cell phone coverage. The next town with reasonable cell phone service north is Northville.
